Since its beginnings in 2007, Goodreads has become the go-to site for over 30 million people to find new books, rate and review titles they've read, and recommend books to their friends. The sheer volume of readers who are active on Goodreads makes this the perfect place for authors to establish their presence. At Publish Green, we offer a Goodreads Advertising Campaign that is designed to increase the visibility of your eBook by getting it in front of the Goodreads community.

For the Goodreads Advertising Campaign, our goal is not just to get your eBook in front of readers, but to get it in front of the individuals whose reading preferences match your book. This target audience will be the individuals we believe are most likely to click the ads to learn more, and are determined based on several factors, including readers’ preferred book genre, age, gender, etc. Whenever someone clicks on one of your ads, they will be directed to your Goodreads book page so they can learn more about about your eBook, mark it as “want to read,” and even find out where they can purchase it via links to retail sites such as

Once we’ve established who your target audience is, we create 4-6 ads for your eBook. Each ad will show your eBook cover and a short, intriguing description of your eBook. Each time your ad is clicked on, a fee will be incurred depending on the bid amount. For Goodreads ads, the default bid is set at $0.50, however the higher you choose to bid the higher Goodreads sets the ad’s priority. Before we begin your campaign, we will ask your advertising budget. Based on what your budget is set at, we will work with you to ensure that we stay within the budget as we set bidding prices.

The Goodreads Advertising Campaign runs for one month, and during this time we will be monitoring and adjusting your ads for optimal performance. At the end of the month we will provide you with a report to show how well your ads performed. At this time, you will then have the option of us continuing your ad management for a monthly fee or transferring the ad management over to you.


How much should my advertising budget be?

You are responsible for the cost of the Goodreads advertisements, so your advertising budget is completely up to you. We will manage your campaign to make sure you do not go over your designated budget.

Where will my ads direct Goodreads users?

While we recommend that you direct these ads back to your Goodreads book page, you do have the option to direct them to your personal author website or your page.

Where on Goodreads will my advertisements be displayed?

Goodreads advertisements can be shown in several different locations depending on where a user is on Goodreads. For example, on the homepage advertisements are shown in the “sponsored books” box on the right hand side of the screen.

How frequently will my Goodreads advertisements be displayed?

Goodreads shows ads using on their own algorithm, which is based  on the results of the initial click-through rates. The more clicks an advertisement receives, the more Goodreads will show it, and vice versa. This resets every day, so an ad may be shown less one day but more the next.

What is a click-through rate?

A click-through rate (CTR) is the percentage of users who are redirected to your Goodreads book page by clicking on your ads.

How will I be able to tell how well my ads performed?

At the end of the campaign we will provide you with a report showing the statistics from your campaign. This report will show how much was spent on advertisements, how many people viewed your ads, the number of people who clicked on your ads, and the number of Goodreads users who added your book as “to read” during the course of the campaign.

How many people can I expect to click on my ads?

The number of Goodreads users who interact with your ads varies for every campaign depending on many things, including who your target audience is. For instance, there may be many more readers on Goodreads who have specified they are interested in historical fiction than there are who are interested in reading memoirs. While there is no way to guarantee that clicks will translate into sales or a review of your book, we do our best to monitor and adjust them for optimal performance.
